How was September for you?

With a vacation in California we got to spend half the month on the west coast and half on the east, and it felt pretty hot for September on both sides of the country.

As a quick read, I enjoyed On Being A Photographer by Magnum photographer David Hurn. Enough that I made plenty of notes. I'm now well into The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, which we're reading as part of a study group. It's a book that I tried years ago and didn't get on with, but I'm learning much more from it this time around.

My favorite movie this month was easily Free Solo. Wow. Breathtaking, regardless of whether you're interested in climbing. Watching it just before visiting Yosemite was pretty special but regardless, what an incredible individual achievement. I find it virtually impossible to comprehend how he did it. Very well filmed too.

In terms of gear, it's been fun to watch my wife enjoying the new DJI mobile 3 gimbal so much. Being able to use the Moment lenses with it without a counterweight was a big plus and it seems great value at the moment. For me, the more I use the Ricoh GR3 the more I enjoy it and understand more how to get the best from it. I initially struggled to use it in low light (the autofocus can struggle) but I'm now getting event images that I'm very pleased with.
